‘The next billion devices’ – ...19 July 2023 update

‘The next billion devices’ – Amazon rallies IoT crowd around Sidewalk project

Amazon has issued a clarion call to the IoT crowd to build IoT devices for Sidewalk, its nationwide LoRa-based low-power wide-area (LPWA) network in the US. It said the Sidewalk network, which links consumer smart home devices into a low-power neighbourhood wirless infrastructure for public IoT tracking and monitoring, now stretches to 90 percent of the US population. It wants to put a billion IoT devices on the network, it said, with help from developers.

Sidewalk – the brand for Amazon’s community-based IoT networking initiative using proprietary LoRa in 900 MHz spectrum, plus short-range BLE; not to be confused with the failed Canadian smart-city project run by Google’s Sidewalk Labs busines – has drawn interest from IoT hardware makers. Chip firms Nordic Semiconductor, Silicon Labs, and Texas Instruments, plus module vendor Quectel, have variously issued software and hardware kits (SDKs and HDKs) for it.

https://www.rcrwireless.com/20230329/internet-of-things-4/the-next-billion-devices-amazon-rallies-iot-crowd-around-sidewalk-projectKenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04424413314996208873noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8243110883198341706.post-80386925575064609722023-06-15T06:42:18.518-04:002023-06-15T06:42:18.518-04:0015 June 2023 update

We’re here with some updates on a few of the topics raised recently about Reddit’s Data API.

tl;dr - On July 1, we will enforce new rate limits for a free access tier available to current API users, including mods. We're in discussions with PushShift to enable them to support moderation access. Moderators of sexually-explicit spaces will have continued access to their communities via 3rd party tooling and apps.

First update: new rate limits for the free access tier

We posted in r/redditdev about a new enterprise tier for large-scale applications that seek to access the Data API.

All others will continue to access the Reddit Data API without cost, in accordance with our Developer Terms, at this time. Many of you already know that our stated rate limit, per this documentation, was 60 queries per minute regardless of OAuth status. As of July 1, 2023, we will start enforcing two different rate limits for the free access tier:

If you are using OAuth for authentication: 100 queries per minute per OAuth client id

If you are not using OAuth for authentication: 10 queries per minute

Important note: currently, our rate limit response headers indicate counts by client id/user id combination. These headers will update to reflect this new policy based on client id only, on July 1.

Most authenticated callers should not be significantly impacted. Bots and applications that do not currently use our OAuth may need to add OAuth authentication to avoid disruptions. If you run a moderation bot or web extension that you believe may be adversely impacted and cannot use Oauth, please reach out to us here.

If you’re curious about the enterprise access tier, then head on over here to r/redditdev to learn more.

https://www.reddit.com/r/modnews/comments/13wshdp/api_update_continued_access_to_our_api_for/Kenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04424413314996208873noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8243110883198341706.post-10315279648856420272023-04-14T15:30:06.675-04:002023-04-14T15:30:06.675-04:0014 April 2023 update
